Samsung Chromebook 2

Samsung’s Chromebook 2 comes in 11.6″ (with a 1366×768 display) and 13.3″ (with a 1920×1080 display) models, both featuring 4Gb of low-voltage RAM, a 720p webcam, USB3.0, HDMI, and a MicroSD slot.
The processor on the 13.3″ model is the Exynos 5 octa-core 5422 processor, which features four ARM Cortex A-15 chips that run at 2.1GHz plus another four Cortex A-7 units running at up to 1.7Ghz, an odd hybrid but a big bump up from the Exynos 5 Dual-core part in Samsung’s current Chromebook.
The 11.6″ model will run a slightly slower version of the same.
The system boots from the same 16Gb Flash drive based around iNAND embedded Flash. Battery life is quoted at 8.5 hours.

Blackphone

Pre-Snowden a smartphone that traded on user privacy and granular file encryption would have been a tough sell, now it’s seen as a device with a bona fide place in the market. The Blackphone, unveiled at Mobile World Congress last week, runs a customised version of Android (PrivatOS) and comes with a suite of secure communication apps to keep your calls, texts and e-mails off-limits from surveillance.
App junkies won’t be impressed by the lack of Google Play – though it can be installed – nor will developers, who won’t be able to access any of that precious user data.
