Launched in December last year, the NCE aims to provide 3,000 heavily subsidised training days to owner-managers and senior staff of small companies (employing less than 250 employees) around the country in 2007.
At the launch, SFA chairman Pat Crotty said the Irish spend of 1.5 per cent of payroll on training trailed the EU average of four per cent. “As with any investment, training should be part of the small firm’s annual budget,” he said. The NCE would strengthen the focus of small businesses on management development “and challenge owner-managers to think about how learning affects them and, perhaps more importantly, their employees.”
The SFA describes the NCE as “a one-stop-shop for those who take management development seriously”. A range of courses, specifically written for the centre, cover various aspects of owner-managing a business. They include management development, leadership, marketing, sales, finance, communications, human resources, employment law, strategic and business development and organisational skills.
