Shot in the arm for Athlone

US medical tech firm creates 250 jobs

An American medical technology firm, Kinetic Concepts Inc (KCI) is to set up a global manufacturing operation at Athlone in Co Westmeath. The investment, supported by IDA Ireland, will create up to 250 jobs over the next five years, with about a fifth requiring third level graduates.

KCI specialises in advanced wound-care and therapeutic surfaces. It designs, manufactures, markets and services a wide range of proprietary products aimed at improving clinical outcomes and reducing patient care costs.

The operation will start in a leased building at the IDA business campus, making therapy units and associated sterile products for global markets. In addition, it will manage the supply chain for third party manufacturers, global purchasing, supplier agreements and distribution of KCI’s products.
