With MP3 being the music format of the moment, Minidisc has been somewhat pushed to the side. Sony hopes to change this with its next generation high capacity MD format, the Hi-MD.
The new Hi-MD Walkman has its own Minidisc. The 1Gbyte disc allows you to store up to 45 CDs on to a single disc (using Atrac3plus technology). The Hi-MD also supports the uncompressed linear PCM audio format and Atrac3.
The format is not only limited to discs you use on the Hi-MD player; you can apply the format to standard Minidiscs to almost double their capacity. The Hi-MD format can be used to store not only music, but also video and PC data files, such as digital images and documents.
The SonicStage software that comes with the Hi-MD Walkman allows you to manage your music, transferring tracks to and from the Walkman.
