Microsoft to launch new ‘super app’ for Copilot
It is officially the year of the super-app. OpenAI recently launched its own super-app, which the company has since admitted is ‘rather messy’. Now Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has also confirmed that a super-app for Copilot is on the way.
Microsoft is working on an AI super-app that brings together Copilot’s chat, coding and agent capabilities. During a quarterly earnings presentation, Nadella said that when the app launches later this year, it will serve both consumers and business users.
The rollout of OpenAI’s own super-app did not go smoothly, but that apparently is not stopping other companies from heading in the same direction. It is possible that Microsoft will be more successful in building an all-in-one app and avoiding OpenAI’s missteps.
What is striking, however, is that Nadella recently indicated that Microsoft actually wants to focus less on apps and more on agents. The AI era is still in its infancy; trends and best practices for AI interfaces are therefore very much in flux.
Apple does not yet seem to be moving towards a super-app model and continues to develop separate, specialised apps.
