Microsoft ihas announced the launch of a new service, Windows Live SkyDrive, which provides computer users in Ireland with five gigabytes of free online storage. Windows Live SkyDrive is offered by Microsoft under the Windows Live umbrella of online services. It provides customers with access to their files and information anywhere and anytime they have access to the web, as well as options for sharing material they create with other people.
This move marks Microsoft’s entry into the ‘cloud computing’ storage space. To date operators such as eircom have already been offering such a service, while sites like Flickr have been used as a space for storing and saving images. Google’s gmail service can also be modified to act as a storage solution.
