Lenovo has stopped sales of its existing small-screen Windows tablets in the US, but plans a new model for release by the end of the year.

“We will continue to bring new Windows devices to market across different screen sizes, including a new 8″ tablet and 10″ tablet coming this holiday,” the company said in a statement.

Lenovo meanwhile has stopped US sales of its existing small-screen Windows tablets, including the ThinkPad 8 and Miix 2 tablets with 8″ screens, which was first reported by the IDG News Service. Lenovo cited stronger demand for larger screen models.

The company now says, however, that it intends to remain in the small-screen Windows tablet business in the US with the launch of the new 8″ model during the holiday season.

“Our model mix changes as per customer demand, and although we are no longer selling ThinkPad 8 in the US, and we have sold out of Miix 2 8″, we are not getting out of the small-screen Windows tablet business,” Lenovo said.

Lenovo has redirected stock of the ThinkPad 8 to developing countries. A company spokesman declined to comment on whether buyers in the US would be able to order Miix 2 again, or when it would be back in stock.

Dell, Toshiba and Acer are among a few companies selling Windows tablets with screen sizes under 10″. Microsoft in May was due to announce a small-screen Windows 8.1 RT tablet along with the Surface Pro 3, but scrapped plans.
