NUI Galway-based research group, Applied Optics, has been selected to showcase its pioneering work at the prestigious annual SPIE (Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers) Photonics West exhibition, taking place in the Moscone Centre, San Francisco, from 25-27 January.
The exhibition is the world’s leading international event encompassing industrial and medical applications of optics, lasers and photonics.
Established in 2002 with the assistance of funding from Science Foundation Ireland, Applied Optics specialises in areas such as vision science, imaging and adaptive optics, currently has 30-strong research team.
Commenting on the group’s participation at the SPIE Photonics West exhibition, Prof Chris Dainty, head of Applied Optics, said: “We are delighted to be part of such a major global event in our particular field of research. Our selection to take part in this world-renowned exhibition is a milestone for the Applied Optics group, which began in 2002 as a small niche research organisation.
“Through hard work and exemplary results, we have grown into a sizeable, internationally recognised research group with a strong record of collaboration with industry in Ireland, Europe, the Americas and Japan.”
In addition, SensL, a Cork-based SME specialising in low-light detector solutions, will be taking part in the exhibition together with 1,150 companies from across the globe.
The event will also feature a SPIE Job Fair, where over 30 international companies will be seeking new applicants.
