iPad 2 rumours gain momentum

3 January 2011

it was reported that the iPad 2 will sport a smaller bezel, include wide range speakers, and come with a flattened back – much like the most recent iteration of the iPod Touch. Shortly thereafter, videos emerged purporting to show an iPad 2 case molding which suggests that the next-gen iPad will, in fact, be a tad bit smaller, come with rounded edges, and have a flattened back.

Apple news website 9to5Mac recently got hold of case mold drawings for iPad 2 casings which appear to show a spot for a camera on the back and tapered edges. The website reported: “Some new information we have discovered through these drawings is a brand new port opening on the left side of the device. We’re not sure what this opening is for but it is there on these latest iPad 2 design schematics.

“On the drawings there appears to be an SD card going into the port but that could just be a piece of the case mold machine. The latest rumors point to either a mini USBor a full USB port being present on the iPad 2 so it very well could be one or a combination of the three ports.”
