The Irish Internet Association has announced details of its annual Internet congress, which takes place in Clontarf Castle in Dublin on September 19th. ‘Back to the Future’ will focus on accessibility, VOIP, biometrics, Internet security, e-government and search technologies and will include input from speakers from Intel, Apple and Microsoft. Four workshops will be held during the one-day event, including Search Engine Strategies, Software Compliance and Risk Assessment, and Optimising E-mail for Effective Business Communication.

The conference fee is EUR*195 for members and EUR*250 for non-members. IIA members outside of Leinster can avail of one free ticket each to attend, but there is limited availability. Phone 01-4535 707 for more details.

Incidentally, the IIA has recently released the results of its first Internet security survey of SME organisations. While respondents indicated that they are reasonably confident of the security of the services they use and 92 percent said they have an Internet firewall installed, 81 percent reported that they suffer from spam, 51 percent from spyware and 48 percent from viruses. More details of this survey and its results are available at www.iia.ie.
