Google Pixel keeps growing in a declining market
Google Pixel is one of the few brands that is growing. According to figures from Counterpoint Research, global Pixel shipments in the second quarter rose by 16% year-on-year. This growth is mainly attributed to strong sales of the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10a in mature markets such as North America and Western Europe.
The global smartphone market is currently struggling. Due to the ongoing memory crisis, the number of smartphones shipped in the second quarter of 2026 fell by 11% compared to a year earlier. This puts the market at its lowest level for a second quarter since 2013.
Samsung showed the strongest growth among the five largest smartphone manufacturers. Apple grew by 3% compared to a year earlier. But Xiaomi saw shipments fall by more than 10% and ended up at around 12% market share. Oppo likewise declined by more than 10% and came out at 11% market share. Vivo also lost more than 10% and dropped to 8% market share.
Google will launch the Pixel 11 on 12 August. New to this device will be Pixel Glow, a new notification system that is built into the camera system’s flash and displays all the colours of the rainbow. Competitor Nothing is doing exactly the same with its Glyph (Matrix).
