Fujitsu has expanded its Primergy server range aimed at small and medium sized businesses with the Primergy TX100 S1, designed to improve efficiency, performance and security.

The TX100 S1 is a replacement for the Econel 100 S2, and is designed as an entry-level server. It features up to 4TB of integrated storage, Raid 0/1 support, and an optional tape drive for backup and archiving, which could help customers improve data security and compliance efforts, according to Fujitsu.

Operational efficiency and performance could also be improved by using the TX100 S1 for centralised file storage, and supporting billing or purchasing applications, email and internet server applications, said the firm.

The new server is also compliant with the Energy Star 5.0 standard, and is available with the new Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Foundation software.

Jens-Peter Seick, senior vice president of Fujitsu’s x86 server product unit, suggested that many small enterprises use a regular PC as their server because they believe they cannot afford a server-based IT infrastructure.

“However, PCs are not made for continuous operation and companies using this model risk losing their valuable data, along with reduced operational efficiency,” he said.

“With the new Primergy TX100 S1, customers can now purchase a cost-efficient and reliable infrastructure that allows them to increase their operational efficiency.”
