According to new research from Milward Brown, 93% of Irish people are now aware of the Digital TV Switchover, ande 96% of people living in rural communities also claiming awareness. However, there are still some 200,000 still using the analogue TV network for their primary TV who need to make the switch.

The study was released on the foot on confirmation that National Digital Switchover Week will be taking place next week (17-23 September).

Organised by the Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources (DCENR) in partnership with The Wheel and Irish Rural Link, the week will see 26 local Digital Outreach Champions across the country organise events in their communities to encourage those who have not yet switched to digital TV to do so before the analogue TV network in Ireland is switched off on Wednesday 24 October.

Events will include coffee mornings, information sessions in local shopping centres, and open days in local community centres aimed at encouraging local communities to get informed, make the switch to digital TV and not leave it until the last minute.
Retailers throughout the country will also be offering special deals as part of the week.

Analogue TV transmissions will continue to carry a ‘bug’ on the bottom right corner of the screen which will be a permanent reminder and countdown to the switchover.
