Apple will confirm its 2014-15 iPhone portfolio at an event this evening at the at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of De Anza College in Cupertino, California.

At 6pm CEO Tim Cook is expected to unveil announcing two new iPhones and speculation is continuing that we may get to see the long-rumoured iWatch.

According to reports there will be two new models: a 5.5″ phablet and a 4.7″ smartphone to supercede the iPhone 5s and 4s – both of which will be kept on as budget alternatives.

As far as new features go, there will be improvements to the display as ‘Sapphire glass’ replaces the Gorilla glass of the iPhone 5.

Other additions include iOS 8, which adds fitness tracking, home automation controls, in-car control suite Car Play and a virtual wallet that can process transactions using near field communication (NFC), already common in Android handsets.

Oh, and U2 will be on hand for reasons unclear but possibly related to a recent video shoot in Dublin.
