Touted by Symbol as one of the first switched-wireless networking infrastructures, data is now routed on the Mobius Axon through a central switch, as opposed to the access points of a wireless LAN, allowing for greater flexibility and extensions.
The system includes access ports (as opposed to traditional access points) that are said to be more cost effective and simpler to install without the need for separate power lines.
The new architecture is designed to deliver advanced wireless networking services and application-specific security to IEEE 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g wireless networks and mobile systems, but with reduced deployment, management and technology upgrade costs that are associated with enterprise wireless network ownership.
