ComputracePlus, offered by Stealthshield, is designed to help companies and individuals recover both their desktop and notebook PCs if in the event they should be stolen.
It also works as an asset management tool for administrators in companies where any laptop or desktops belonging to an organisation are monitored every 24 hours once they are connected to the Internet.
When you purchase ComptracePlus, the software is e-mailed to you and once you install, it is designed to be difficult to detect and tamper with.
The real beauty of the system is that an encrypted signal is sent every 24 hours from the installed agent on your computer to the secure servers in the company’s Eurotracking Monitoring Centre via an IP address if network connected or via a modem an telephone line.
If your computer gets stolen, and as soon as you report it as missing to the Eurotracking Monitoring Centre, its recovery team will flag the missing equipment as stolen. As soon as the stolen computer is connected to the Internet, the recovery team will be alerted to send a signal to the secure servers in the Monitoring Centre every 15 minutes and this can be escalated to five minutes until the computer is recovered. This information is then passed onto the Garda Siochana increasing the chances of recovering from 1% to over 90%.
Based on the tests we carried out, the Computrace Plus tool is an impressive one and without ever being used as a tracking tool for stolen laptops, it allows an administrator to track and monitor all computers within their organisation, right down to the software that has been installed on them.
If the computer does gets stolen, it certainly increases the chances of recovering the machine as long as it is connected to the Internet at some point. Impressively, even the thief is tech-savvy enough to wipe the hard drive or swap it out for a new one, Stealthshield claims that as Computraceplus is a multi-component application it will be resilient to any disabling efforts.
