Viatel and UK network operator Virtual1 have signed a deal that will allow it to access the Dublin-headquartered company’s connectivity solutions across Ireland.

Viatel’s network spans over 8,500km which connects 35 European cities, over 120 data centres. It is a preferred connectivity partner of London Stock Exchange, and is directly connected to the largest content distribution networks, public cloud platforms, and internet companies globally.

Virtual1 owns and operates its own network providing a state-of-the-art, fully redundant core network built using best of breed Juniper hardware and resilient dark fibre. With network interconnects with every major UK carrier we can offer extensive coverage within the UK.

Colm Piercy, CEO, Viatel, said: “We are pleased to welcome Virtual1 as a wholesale partner and this relationship will help enable us to bring key business hubs closer together.”

Virtual1 managing director Tom O’Hagan said: “This partnership with Viatel is critical to enabling us to develop and expand our business in one of our target regions. It will enhance the service that we can provide to our existing partners, and open up opportunities to develop new partnerships to sell across Ireland.”
