Users return Humane AI Pin en masse
Buyers of the Humane AI Pin are returning their devices en masse. The number of devices still in the hands of customers is said to be less than 7,000, reports news website The Verge.
Humane spent about six years and more than $200 million on the promise of making the AI Pin as a device to free people from their smartphones.
Humane – led by former Apple employees Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno – faced negative reviews for its product earlier this year. The AI helper works via voice and projection of text. Problems with the device included extremely poor battery life, frequent overheating problems and faltering software.
Recently, Humane e-mailed customers that the device’s charging case is a fire hazard and should not be used. The AI Pin’s laser display caused the device to overheat, and Humane managers reportedly had to cool the device with ice packs.
The Times previously reported that Humane had received about 10,000 orders for the AI Pin by early April, while they themselves had counted on 100,000 units by 2024. At least 1,000 orders were reportedly cancelled and the company must refund $1 million to customers who returned the device.
