Users have taken to social media complaining that their iPhone 16s are losing their charge twice as fast since upgrading to iOS 18.

Apple launched the new iPhone 16 series on 10 September. About one week later followed the major update to its mobile operating system. The combination of the two is now said to be causing problems for quite a few users.

While the iPhone 16 should actually provide better battery life, in practice it appears to be just the opposite. Website MacRumors noticed quite a few users on Reddit were complaining about problems.

“This morning I unplugged my phone at 9am and it only stayed at 95% for 20 minutes. Then it started dropping rapidly. Every five minutes, I lost 1%,” wrote one user.

Another user compare the battery usage of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro. When the former, with equal usage, still had 85%, the 16 Pro had already dropped to 58%.

Apple has not yet officially responded to the problems. However, most users do report that their batteries are working normally again after updating their devices to iOS 18.0.1 or iOS 18.1 beta. Others, however, continue to experience problems.
