UPC has announced results for its second quarter ended 30 June 2015 showing continued growth in broadband and phone services.

The net total number of service subscriptions increased by 7,300 to reach 1,099,000 overall, a growth of approximately 1% from the same period a year ago.

Broadband on its own recorded a 4% year-on-year quarterly increase to 367,300 customers.

Phone subscriptions were at 352,400 phone customers, a 9% year-on-year increase.

Digital cable TV services continued their slide from 414,800 in the same quarter in 2014 to 318,900 customers.

During the quarter UPC was awarded best broadband provider at the Switcher Broadband Awards, announced its first dedicated retail outlet in Limerick and broadened its community outreach efforts by partnering with CoderDojo for the Coolest Project Awards and delivering a digital skills seminar for seniors at Orwell House.

Carol Grennan, CFO of UPC (pictured), said: “Our second quarter results reflect continued demand for our broadband and home phone services. Horizon TV now reaches 137,000 customers and is taken by 43% of our digital cable TV base.

“In June, UPC introduced its latest Horizon campaign offering new customers free TV for 12 months, 240Mb/s broadband and Anytime World Phone. Early results indicate this compelling bundle is being positively received.

“We’re very pleased with the continuing growth of our business division which is generating considerable momentum in the marketplace. Business revenues were up 23% in the second quarter partly as a result of our recent acquisition of BitBuzz and also indicative of continuing economic recovery and the appetite which exists for highly competitive services. BitBuzz is also winning business in the hotels sector across Ireland and the UK.

“Looking ahead, we see a much greater opportunity for growth as we prepare to enter into the mobile market, introduce more products and services, and open up new revenue possibilities through our continuous innovation in the market.”
