Google Nexus 5

You’re probably sick and tired of Nexus 5 leaks by now, but over the weekend, a surprisingly clear video of a phone that looks very much like the real thing.

Although the front of the phone doesn’t look all that different than last year’s Nexus 4, the device is bigger and features a giant camera lens like the one on the new Nexus 7. The glass on the camera lens looks raised, so our fingers are crossed that whoever built this thing knew what they were doing and built it to last.

It’s rumoured that this new Nexus will have optical image stabilisation like Nokia’s Lumia line, but we might have to wait for the next big video leak to see that feature in action.

Unfortunately the video doesn’t go into much detail about the phone’s software. The operating system is still labeled KeyLimePie, so it’s possible that this is an early build from before the Google-Nestle partnership that is Kit Kat, and the launcher doesn’t look like the one we’ve been seeing in other leaks.

Google is still expected to announce the Nexus 5 and Kit Kat today but at this point it doesn’t seem like there is much else to say unless the big G has a surprise up its sleeve.

HTC One Max

HTC’s newest phone, the HTC One Max, includes a fingerprint scanner – although unlike the one in Apple’s latest iPhone, it’s located on the back of the device.

The Android handset is essentially a larger version of HTC’s critically acclaimed One flagship phone, with otherwise similar specs.

Unlike the HTC One, the One Max can be locked or unlocked with a touch on its fingerprint scanner. The scanner can also be used to launch up to three favorite apps, each triggered by a different finger, HTC said Monday.

The phone has a 5.9" 1080p HD screen, a quad-core 1.7GHz processor from Qualcomm, and 2Gb of RAM. The front-facing camera has a resolution of 2.1MP, while the 4MP rear-facing camera uses HTC’s UltraPixel design, which the company says uses a larger image sensor to offer better low-light performance.

Talk time on the WCDMA version of the phone can reach 25 hours on its 3300mAh battery. The One Max also has a microSD card slot for expandable memory.

LG G-Flex

Leaked images are not photos of LG’s bendy G-Flex smartphone phone on CNET and Engadget show a 6" display and should be coming to market later this month.

Despite the phone’s name, and the fact that LG has promised "bendable and unbreakable" displays at some point, the G-Flex’s glass display curve is reportedly expected to be static and unmoving. True mass-produced bendable screens are probably still years down the line. The fact that the leaked images all feature the phone bent in the same angle and orientation would seem to confirm as much.

If the images are indeed legit, LG has opted to curve its device vertically, rather than horizontally as is the case with the Galaxy Round. Either way you bend it, the new static curved design probably won’t offer too much in the way of an immersive experience that one would get with giant curved TVs. Instead, the new, arcing form factors open the doors for new designs, as well as new forms of UI.
