Sony HMZ-T3

The Oculus Rift was the first gadget to get us excited about virtual reality headsets and now Sony is getting back in on the action with the HMZ-T3 at IFA in Berlin this week.
It looks more Bono than Neo but it’s more than a me-too effort. It comes with HDMI and micro-HDMI connections, dual 720p 3D OLED displays and 7.1 surround sound. The good news is it will sink with your Android handset – so there could be scope for some great augmented reality apps – but the battery pack is only good for three hours.

Acer Aspite R7

Acer’s main draw for the R7 ultrabook is the multi-configuration display that lets you use it as either a tablet or a notebook. A third, orientation called Ezel Mode (shown here) brings the screen forward to make it more touch-friendly. Also unusual is the switching around of keyboard and trackpad and is compatible with capacitive pen inputs.
Specwise it has a choice of either Core i5 or i7 Haswell processors, 3Mb RAM and a 500Gb hard drive. According to a report in Engadget, sales are not going well, so maybe it’s best to look at this as more of an experiment as a forerunner of any design trends.
