Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton has announced that cloud computing firm Marketo is to create 125 jobs, over the next three years in Dublin. The news comes after the Silicon Valley cloud company’s April announcement that it was establishing its European headquarters in Dublin. Recruitment is currently underway for the positions which include sales, marketing, support, consulting, development and back office roles.
President and CEO of Marketo, Phil Fernandez commented that Ireland had a “large talent pool of skilled people.” When commenting on the reason for Marketo’s move to Ireland, Fernandez said that: “Ireland has a built a great reputation as a centre for software-as-a-service (Saas) companies.” He added that, “we look forward to expanding operations in EMA and support out swiftly growing international customer base.”
Minister Bruton welcomed Marketo’s futher commitment to Ireland. Minister Bruton stated that the new jobs were “a great confidence boost for cloud computing in Ireland and for the high tech sectors of the economy generally,”
Minister Bruton emphasised the importance of the cloud computing industry to the Irish economy, he noted that by 2014 the cloud computing sector could worth €9.5 billion and employing 8,600 in Ireland. Minister Bruton stated that, “earlier this month I announced the establishment of an applied research centre supported by €5million of government funds to help ensure that Ireland can realise its potential and become a world leader in this high growth area.”
Founded in 2006, Marketo has been named as one of the fastest growing cloud computing companies in the history of Silicon Valley, boasting a 315% increase in revenue in 2010.
