What date, which meal, which activity? Whenever groups want to make plans, a vote is almost always needed sooner or later. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of gauging the general mood around a certain topic.

To prevent these processes from being outsourced to external websites or tools, messaging app Signal has now integrated a poll and voting feature directly into group chats, as the Signal Foundation announced.

To create a poll or vote in Signal, simply tap the + button next to the text input field when drafting a message. Then select ‘poll,’ and enter the question along with up to 10 possible answers.

Next, you can decide whether group members are allowed to select more than one option or only one. The latter setting helps ensure clear decisions are reached.

The poll initiator can end the poll at any time by tapping the ‘show votes’ button beneath the poll in the chat.

Polls in Signal, like all messenger chat content, are end-to-end encrypted and visible only to group chat members. However, the responses are not anonymous – everyone in the group can see who voted for what.

Once you update Signal to the latest version, the poll feature should be available immediately – on Android, iOS, and the desktop app.
