SAP bolsters MDM capabilities
SAP has introduced the latest version of its mobile device management (MDM) system with the aim of providing closer enterprise application integration and improved support for bring your own device (BYOD) policies.
The updated SAP Afaria enterprise mobility management (EMM) system includes new app and self-service portal designs to provide a familiar, consumer-like app portal experience in the enterprise to support BYOD working.
"The latest release of SAP Afaria aims to remove complexity and support the growing mobile workforce by helping to ensure that all data stored and transmitted via a mobile device is protected and secure," said SAP.
It will allow users to remotely back up and delete data if a device is lost or stolen, said SAP, and "more easily deliver fixes, upgrades and refreshes to mobile users".
SAP said the new version includes deeper directory integration, enhanced email access control, expanded PKI certificate management, app portal enhancements, and a new API to ease app development and improve security.
Specifically there are new security features to support both Samsung Android devices and the Apple iOS mobile platform.
"SAP Afaria scales to meet the expanding requirements of large enterprises," said Sanjay Poonen, president and head of the SAP mobile division. "The industry is moving beyond simple MDM (mobile device management) to more advanced EMM."
