Oppo expands A series with powerful batteries and 5G processors
Oppo has stepped up competition in the mid-range segment by adding three new models to its A6 series. In addition to the previously presented Pro variant, the manufacturer now introduces the A6 5G, the A6x 5G and the A6x 4G. Oppo is targeting users who have high demands on the battery life and longevity of their device without paying the price of a flagship.
The main innovation within the series lies with the power supply. The top model within the series, the A6 5G, features a 6,550mAh battery. The cheaper A6x models feature a 6,100mAh battery. According to Oppos technical tests, this results in a standby time of over 24 hours for calling and more than 28 hours for video streaming.
The company paired this high capacity with a long life cycle. The A6’s battery is designed to last over five years with average use. In addition, the standard A6 model supports 45W Supervooc technology, which fully charges the battery in 88 minutes.
Performance and cooling
Under the bonnet, several processors power the devices. The 5G variants use the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 platform, which achieves a 10% performance gain over the previous generation. The 4G model runs on a Snapdragon 685 chip. To ensure stability during intensive tasks like gaming, Oppo is introducing the SuperCool VC system.
This cooling mechanism uses a 3,900 mm² vapor chamber to prevent heat build-up. On the software front, the devices run on ColorOS 15. The new Luminous Rendering Engine should ensure smoother animations, while the Trinity Engine optimises energy efficiency. Combined with a 120Hz display, Oppo aims for a smooth user experience that remains stable over the long term.
OPPO is also betting on physical durability with the A6 series. The A6 5G boasts IP66, IP68 and IP69 certifications. This means the device can withstand powerful water jets, immersion up to 1.5 metres deep and even cleaning with hot water up to 85 degrees Celsius. The casing is also sealed with special foam to protect against spills of various liquids.T
The A6 5G gets a recommended retail price of €269, while the A6x models cost €229 (5G) and €159 (4G) respectively. All devices will receive three years of operating system updates and six years of security updates.
