Global payments processor Omnipay won two of the leading awards at the 2012 Merchant Payments Ecosystem (MPE) gala awards ceremony, held in Berlin last week.

The company won the Best Processor award and CEO and co-founder Hubert O’Donoghue (pictured) received the prize for Acquirer Personality of the Year.

Based in Dublin, Omnipay has built and manages a single global transactions platform which currently provides payment services for 28 of the world’s leading acquiring banks and global payments processors, as well as 5.4 million merchants trading in 73 countries across 158 currencies. Its clients include HSBC Merchant Services, Equens and PayPal.

Speaking at the ceremony, O’Donoghue, said: "While I’m honoured to be personally recognised by the industry, I am particularly excited that OmniPay has won the best European processor award. It’s a fantastic reflection on our pioneering technology and the deep payments expertise of our wonderful team in OmniPay. By operating the only truly global payments processing platform, OmniPay is delivering a world class solution that is more efficient and cost effective."

This year’s awards are not the first for OmniPay. It also won the European Card Acquiring Forum (predecessor to the MPE awards) ‘Processing Excellence’ award in 2010 and followed up last year by winning the 2011 ECAF ‘Performance’ award for the achievements in the area of chargeback processing.

OmniPay was founded in Dublin in 2000, and has enjoyed business and revenue growth every year since its establishment. In 2011, OmniPay opened new sales offices in Australia and the United States.
