Microsoft IT outage disrupts airlines, banks and media
A significant Microsoft IT outage has disrupted airlines, banks and media groups globally.
The problem is reportedly due to a CrowdStrike security software update that caused issues with Windows software, according to the Irish Times.
Ryanair’s systems in Dublin and Cork have been affected, causing potential issues with online check-ins, although flights are still departing. Aer Lingus seems to not be affected by the global outage.
Ryanair took to X, commenting: “We’re currently experiencing disruption across the network due to a global third party IT outage which is out of our control. We advise all passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before their scheduled departure time.”
Additionally, Transport for Ireland reported that its apps, including the Leap card top-up and TFI Live, are down due to the outage
The London Stock Exchange was unable to publish news due to the outage, while Euronext Dublin reported no impact on trading. Bank of Ireland and AIB services were unaffected but are monitoring the situation.
Sydney Airport experienced delays from a global technical outage, though flights continued. Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport reported check-in delays. Spain’s main airports operator, Aena, is using manual systems due to IT issues, causing potential delays.
Microsoft has not yet provided a response.
