In what is a first for online television service, Aertv.ie, a secondary school in Kildare has been selected to interact live through their PCs with the 1995 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry, as he delivers a lecture on Climate Change in DCU this week.
Through a dedicated Skype link students from Patrician Secondary School will have the opportunity to pose questions to Prof Mario Molina (pictured) from their classroom and join in with a further 300 students attending in person. The lecture will take place in the Helix Theatre in DCU this Wednesday at 11am and will be broadcast live on Aertv.ie.
The lecture is part of the DCU Nobel Laureate Lecture series being held in association with Magnet Networks. Prof Molina highlighted the threat to the ozone layer from CFC gases used in spray cans, refrigerants and solvents and his more recent work on the problem of pollution in rapidly expanding cities has led to him be assigned by President Barack Obama to the transition team on environmental issues in the US.

DCU Nobel Laureate Lecture series aims to bring to Ireland publicly accessible lectures by some of the world’s brightest minds. The series features annual lectures by Nobel Laureates specialising in Physics, Chemistry, Peace, Economics, Physiology & Medicine and Literature. Previous speakers have included Dr Bill Phillips and Dr Steven Chu, both Nobel Laureates in Physics.
