The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation has announced the collection of over 250,000 mobile phones by schools all over the country as part of its Phones for Boards campaign.
The unwanted handsets will be exchanged for 400 interactive whiteboards valued at €1.2 million.
The campaign ihas been praised as providing a substantial portion the €3 million Jack & Jill requires annually to support its 322 families nationwide with home nursing care for their children with brain damage. According to the charity, 250 handsets equals the cost of home nursing care for a sick child for a month.
The charity has also announced it will be recruiting a new schools co-ordinator to further develop the campaign, currently consisting of 1,400 schools nationwide.
The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation was set up in 1997 by Jonathan Irwin and his wife MaryAnn O’Brien (MD of Lily O’Brien’s) to help children suffering severe intellectual and physical developmental delay as a result of brain damage.
The charity’s services include home visits, advice, information, funding, lobbying and bereavement support.
