We’ve all seen how Chinese companies have steadily improved both their brand perception and their product quality in recent years and nowhere has this been more evident than with Huawei and its Ascend line of smart phones.
Last year’s P6 was a major step forward over its budget GS-type handsets and set a mark both for design and specification. The P7 extends that and looks competitive with the best of the smart phone market.
With a feather-like weight of just 123g and 6.5mm thickness, the P7 still boasts a 127mm (5”) screen with narrow surround. The 4G LTE-enabled enabled device sports an ARM-compatible 1.8GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, all supported by 16GB of internal storage. A unique feature of the P7 is that one version will be available with a dual SIM capability, where the second SIM slot doubles as a microSD slot.
Huawei said last year that it would use its deep knowledge of the carrier networks to design better mobile devices and this is now being seen with the P7. The new smart phone uses dual antenna technology to boost 4G speeds, as well as smart network switching technology that stabilises the connection even during weak signal reception to minimise battery drain.
With the a respectable 13MP rear facing camera, there is also a 8MP front facing camera that has another unique capability to take what is being described as the “group selfie”, using a new panoramic mode.
“Huawei’s relentless commitment to developing premium quality smart phones over the past three years has paid off. We are now ranked number three globally in terms of smartphone shipments, and our brand recognition is growing steadily in key regions such as China and Western Europe,” said, Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG). “Today, the launch of Huawei Ascend P7 once again challenges existing industry standards by redefining smartphone design, camera experience, and connectivity, to provide people with an unprecedented mobile experience.”
This may not be marketing guff either, as the price for the Ascend P7 before carrier subsidies is quoted as €449, which makes it highly competitive in this niche.
As an attractive device with a good specification and some unique features and capabilities, the Ascend P7 looks set to do just that — ascend the sales charts.
