Sinking feeling: That’s one Google logo we can wave goodbye to
Google’s Wave seems set to sink without trace, belying the firm’s promise that it would transform online communication when launched last year amid much razzamatazz.
The tool combines e-mail, instant messaging and real-time online collaboration features. Google blames its demise on poor take-up.
“Wave has not seen the adoption we would have liked,” wrote Google’s Urs Holzle, a senior VP, in a blog post. “We don’t plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site at least to the end of the year.”
The product was the brainwave of the brothers behind Google Maps, Jens and Lars Rasmussen, but unlike Maps, seems to have lost its way.
