Canon has announced that until the end of December, consumers who buy certain Canon digital cameras will get a photo printer thrown in for free. This special promotion is designed to make home users aware of Canon’s direct photo printing. The promotion offers two different packages, one: A CP-200 Photo printer with the PowerShot A70 digital camera (EUR579.99) and the other: A CP-200 Photo printer with the PowerShot A300 (EUR475.99).

The CP-200 photo printer connects via a USB cable directly to Canon digital cameras and allows the user to produce photo prints without the need for a PC. The printer uses a dye-sublimation process to produce lab-quality photo prints with the same high-gloss look and feel as traditional silver-halide photo prints. With its tiny footprint, barely larger than the 4 x 6in photos it prints, the CP-200 is small enough to be kept in a drawer.

Released in February this year, the PowerShot A300 and PowerShot A70 digital cameras both offer 3.2Megapixel resolution, 5-point AiAF (Artificial intelligence Auto Focus) for quick and accurate focus, with a capacity to shoot 180-second video clips and Canon’s patented DIGIC (Digital Image Core) processing for super-responsive shooting and excellent colour reproduction. Both cameras are equipped with a wide range of creative shooting modes, including sepia effect, black and white and extra vivid colours. The PowerShot A70 offers a 3x optical zoom, 15 x 1/2000 second shutter speeds and 2.2 frames per second (FPS) shooting.

To print a photo, the camera is directly connected to the Card Photo Printer CP-200 with a standard USB cable supplied with the bundle. A simple menu on the camera allows print size, type and quantity to be selected. Within 85 seconds of selecting ‘print’, the process is complete. The Card Photo Printer CP-200 builds up full-colour images by merging three separate colour layers (yellow, magenta and cyan) to reproduce photo-grade tones. A durable, high-gloss finish is added with a final protective layer. The printer offers a choice of borderless print sizes: The enduring and popular 4 x 6in, L-size, card size and mini-stickers. You can also create personal postcards within two minutes of taking a photo, with pre-printing of postcard ruling on standard 4 x 6in media.

The Card Photo Printer CP-200 works with all of Canon’s latest direct-print compatible range of digital cameras and all other PictBridge-compatible cameras. PC/Mac drivers come as standard with both the PowerShot A70 and A300 and this allows editing and printing via a computer, as well as directly from the camera.
