Deloitte has launched its fourth Top Technology Talent Competition for level students. The competition seeks ideas on how technology can solve a business problem.

The winner of the overall prize will have the choice of either €1,000 or four weeks of paid work experience in Deloitte’s technology consulting practice.

Harry Goddard, partner, technology consulting, Deloitte said: “We are looking for innovative, practical ideas that use any form of technology to solve a business problem, create a business opportunity or enhance an existing service offering. The competition reflects the kind of challenges that Deloitte’s clients present our practitioners with every day and demonstrates how vital it is to be constantly creating new ideas in today’s fast paced environment.”

The shortlisted entries will be invited to Deloitte’s Dublin offices in March to attend a ‘development day’ hosted in the Deloitte Academy, where candidates will receive training and insights from an experienced panel advising on start-up creation and presentation skills.

The following week a shortlisted group will present their idea to a panel of industry experts who will determine the overall winner.

Last year’s winners, Samuel Albanie, Pablo Porto Veloso and Florian Rhinow developed SnapIT!, an app which lets people upload an event into their diary and provides an option to share the event details instantly with their friends’ calendars.

Events are uploaded by capturing an image of the poster or banner advertising the event. Snapit! creates a platform for event promoters to access their target market. Premium placed event slots could be offered to promoters and event organisers to purchase. These slots would depend on the user’s location, thus targeting the most relevant audience. Close integration with social media platforms could also offer further segmentation of the advertising market.

The closing date for entries is 12 March 2014.
