“Nobody really enjoys going through an upgrade, particularly one that is forced upon them. But to avail of some of the trends around at the moment, you need to be working with relatively recent technology,” said McGrath.

“If you want to avail of things like mobility, enterprise computing, even big data, you have to fix the plumbing. If you don’t fix the plumbing you are bringing problems into the future, such as risks around security. This can come from the simple fact that you’re bringing additional complexity to your systems.”

Because they are embracing the cloud option and what is taking place there, that is leading to a wider strategy around enabling the end user to access data from any type of device,” he said.

“We are also seeing a general trend around this area. Whereas in the past we used to see companies saying ‘we want desktops …’ we are now seeing the cables being unplugged and Wi-Fi being more important.’
