The various IT challenges in the construction design process will be the focus of the next Construction IT Alliance (CITA) breakfast meeting to be held in Dublin’s Radisson Hotel, Stillorgan, on Friday 26 May.
According to CITA, the building industry currently spends far less on IT than other industries. It says that in the United States, for example, general manufacturing spends six times more on IT than the construction industry. The group also claims that the industry loses billions of euros due to waste and inefficiency, despite repetitive processes that suit automation. The event will look at some of the trends in the sector and also the challenges facing architects, engineers and contractors when trying to implement new technologies.
Iain Godwin, senior partner and IT director at Foster and Partners, will give the keynote address, while Michael Jonker, of Murray O’Laoire Architects, and Paul Wilson, of Ferguson McIlveen, will each present a case study. Attendance at the seminar is free for CITA members, while there’s a €175 (plus VAT) fee for non-members.
