ChatGPT ads are being rolled out to 31 European countries
OpenAI is expanding its advertising reach by introducing ChatGPT Ads in 31 European countries. This follows a six-month trial period that began in the United States and was extended to eight other regions.
Initially, brands can use the platform through partner agencies, technology partners or the OpenAI ads solutions group. Later this summer, the launch of a self-service tool, Ads Manager, is expected.
The introduction of ads serves as a financial engine to keep advanced AI accessible and affordable for the general public. That is why ads will only be shown to users on the Go or Free plans. Users with an Enterprise, Pro or Plus subscription will continue to enjoy an ad-free experience.
OpenAI stresses that this is governed by strict ethical guidelines in order to maintain user trust. The company assures that customer data is never sold and that conversations remain private.
Ads are clearly labelled to ensure they are not confused with AI-generated answers, and promotional content does not influence the information provided by the AI. In addition, users can decide for themselves how their data is used to personalise ads.
The platform has evolved considerably since the pilot in February. Technical improvements now include conversion optimisation that goes beyond standard CPC and CPM bidding, alongside the introduction of custom audiences and geographic targeting. To provide deeper insight into performance, OpenAI has implemented the Conversions API, the OpenAI Pixel and various third party tracking tools.
Although tens of thousands of companies have already used the service, OpenAI regards the large-scale European expansion as just one step in its long-term strategy.
The company plans to continue refining its measurement tools and ad formats, seeking a balance between business growth and its commitment to protecting user privacy and maintaining the integrity of the AI.
