What’s Your Story? aims to promote and encourage conversations about being online amongst young people. Video and poster submissions were judged on their ability to inspire, as well as how effectively entrants have promoted their entries via social media/word of mouth. Judges included representatives from Twitter, TY Ireland, Facebook, Webwise.ie, Cork Science Festival and Smartfutures.ie.

“The entries really depict that young people see the Internet in a very positive light. A place to share memories, leave a mark on the world, offering opportunities for everyone to expand their knowledge and potential while also being a great place to unwind,” said  Avril Ronan, global programme manager for Internet safety at Trend Micro EMEA. “It is so refreshing to see how young people – digital natives – view the online world and it is clear that they see it as a place to nurture creativity and success.

Donna McCabe, Smart Futures project leader for Science Foundation Ireland, said: “It’s a pleasure to judge the Trend Micro What’s Your Story Competition, on behalf of Smart Futures, and I’m always happy to support any initiative that encourages young people to be active content creators, rather than just passive consumers of technology. This kind of competition, which rewards their creativity and prompts them to think critically about the risks and great potential of the online world, is a wonderful way to do that.

“It is always heartening to see an industry player take positive action to engage the next generation of technologists in Ireland and collaborate openly with others to help inspire young people in their local community.”
