3Com’s OfficeConnect Wireless 11g products are based on the emerging 802.11g wireless standard that allows data transfer rates five-times faster than existing 802.11b standards. They also offer 256bit WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) encryption for added protection against unwarranted access to data transmissions.

The products offer data transfer rates of 54Mbit/s at a distance greater than 300ft (90m) from the access point to PC card.

3Com claims its OfficeConnect Wireless 11g product is among the first to ship with full 802.11g standardisation and the new WPA security.

The new 802.11g standard simply combines the 54Mbit/s speed of the existing IEEE 802.11a standard with the long-range wireless connectivity of 90m associated with the IEEE’s existing 802.11b standard, into a uniformed method of providing faster speeds and greater distances from a wireless access point to a wireless PC card.

The new Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) overcomes security limitations found in current wireless connectivity devices by strengthening the encryption of wireless packets to 256bit encryption.

The 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g bundle includes three individual devices: the OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point, the OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Gateway and the 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g PC Card.
