International digital start-up accelerator Wayra has announced the latest round of nine companies to enter its academy in September. The start-ups were chosen from a shortlist of 15 projects by an independent judging panel following a day of competitive pitches and mentoring.

Wayra provides early stage investment to start-ups as well as a dedicated state-of-the-art workspace, access to market leading experts and the channels-to-market necessary to accelerate commercialisation including favourable terms with leading technology suppliers. Since its launch two years ago, Wayra has accepted 21 companies that have raised over €7.5 million in funding to date.

Each of the start-ups entering Wayra’s nine-month programme will receive financing of up to €40,000, a dedicated workspace, access to mentors and favourable commercial terms with companies like Amazon, Google, Paypal and Microsoft.

Wayra director Karl Aherne said: “Wayra is creating an ecosystem that stimulates already highly promising, entrepreneurial initiatives. Our role is to provide the platform to help accelerate ideas and impact, ultimately with the goal of creating highly investable businesses. For the selected start-ups announced today, Wayra presents a huge opportunity to drive their business forward, leveraging the global network of Wayra accelerators, resources and customer access”.
