Sky has signed a long-term agreement with UTV Ireland to make Ireland’s newest TV channel available on Sky’s platforms in Ireland.

From 1 January 2015, when UTV Ireland goes live on air, all Sky subscribers in Ireland will enjoy access to UTV’s exclusive content on position 116 on Sky’s electronic programming guide.

The agreement includes the provision of UTV Ireland content on a variety of Sky platforms, including tablets, smart phones and other digital devices. UTV Ireland content will also be available to subscribers through Sky on Demand, including Catch Up TV.  Sky HD customers will be able to view UTV Ireland in HD.

JD Buckley, Managing Director of Sky Ireland, said: “We are delighted to partner with UTV Ireland so that we can offer our customers more of their favourite shows across Sky’s platforms. Adding UTV Ireland to Sky’s customer offering confirms our commitment to providing quality content and increasing value to our subscribers”

Michael Wilson, managing director of UTV Ireland, said: “This is a milestone announcement in the history of UTV and securing this deal was integral to the development of UTV Ireland. Sky is the biggest television platform in the country, with almost 50% penetration. Securing a prominent channel position with Sky was of paramount importance to us. Sky has been extremely encouraging and supportive of our plans here and I am delighted that we have been able to bring this deal to fruition. UTV Ireland is an indigenous Irish channel which will have national news and current affairs and original home produced programming, combined with the best of ITV and other worldwide content for Irish viewers.”

UPDATE: Saorview has confirmed UTV Ireland will also be available on free-to-air digital TV from 1 January.
