Typetec, a managed services specialist, has finished deploying systems and services worth EUR*600,000 to the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO). An entirely new IT infrastructure has been delivered to the union’s head office and to mobile staff in 181 branches nationally, together with a systems management service.
Typetec updated legacy systems in the union’s head office and reorganised the underlying IT infrastructure to coincide with management’s move to an office extension in Dublin. The union’s Belfast office was also connected to the central network.
Typetec also supplied HP laptops to the union’s 160 branch secretaries and 50 executive members across Ireland, together with security and access solutions, such as VPNs and secure remote services to give mobile access to e-mail and applications.
INTO’s general treasurer and deputy general secretary, Sheila Nunan, said Typetec had “managed our entire IT systems renewal and development.” Typetec MD Tom Close said the union’s commitment to using modern technologies to deliver secure quality services to its members was “a shining example” for other trade unions. “They’ve made excellent use of mobile technology to keep a very distributed network of staff constantly in touch with head office and their colleagues across the island.”
The INTO represents some 27,500 primary school teachers in the Republic, and over 6,000 primary and post primary teachers in the North.
