UCD fifth in Europe for producing VC-backed entrepreneurs, Pitchbook

University College Dublin (UCD) has been ranked fifth in a list of European universities for producing VC-backed undergraduates according to a report by US research firm PitchBook.

Tracking the period January 2009 to August 2014 the report, Top Universities for VC-backed Entrepreneurs, found that 31 UCD graduate entrepreneurs established 26 companies and raised $112 million in funding.

UCD is the only Irish university to make the the European top 10.

Top of the list was University of London, with 71 graduate entrepreneurs, 67 companies and just over $1 billion in funding. Stanford ranked number 1 globally with 378 entrepreneurs, 309 companies and just over $3.5 billion in VC funsing.

The PitchBook VC database includes the educational backgrounds of over 13,000 founders worldwide. The rankings are based on the number of founders that have received VC funding in period of the report based on the founders’ undergraduate qualifications.
