Microblogging social network Twitter has announced it will be establishing an international base of operations in Dublin. The announcement was broken early this morning in IDA Twitter account in a post reading "Ireland is trending. Twitter to establish international office in Dublin. #ida"

Twitter joins Google, Yahoo, PayPal, Blizzard and Facebook (to name just a few) as the latest Internet giant to use Ireland as a base.

Commenting on the announcement, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton  said: "[This] is a massive win and shows there is real ground for Ireland’s claim to be the Internet capital of Europe."

At time of writing Twitter’s jobs section makes no mention of the proposed Irish office and no location has been confirmed, though it is understood properties in the Dublin 2 and Dubln 4 areas are being looked at.
