Proofpoint is an enterprise gateway content scanner that handles spam, viruses, multi-protocol content security and policy-based encryption. Its modularity lets users deploy new defences as needs change.
The device’s headline features are managed centrally from a single administrative GUI and deployed on a unified appliance architecture.
It uses Proofpoint’s own MLX machine learning technology to examine hundreds of thousands of attributes in every e-mail – including message envelope headers and structure, image properties, sender reputation data as well as unstructured content in the message body. A dynamic update service automatically updates spam protection. Anti-phishing features prevent the theft of personal data from employees, say the makers.
Spam detection also works with multi-byte character languages such as Chinese.
Proofpoint appliances and software deployments provide built-in predictive behavioural analysis of local IP traffic, responding instantly to eliminate traffic spikes caused by target attacks and to block malicious connections from botnets.
