Sky unveils broadband, phone packages

Sky has announced two double-play packages to kick off its presence in the Irish broadband market. Bundling phone and broadband services, Sky Broadband Lite and Sky Broadband Unlimited target casual and heavy users respectively from €30 per month.

Sky struck a deal wholesale deal with BT and eircom in January to carry a service across their networks, reaching 90% of the population at speeds of up to 24Mb/s. BT’s network covers 70% of the country with eircom an extra 20%.

Intended for casual Internet users, Sky Broadband Lite has a monthly data limit of up to 2Gb for €30 with the Talk Freetime basic phone service, rising to €37.50 for unlimited calls to landlines in the Republic and Northern Ireland, along with 20 territories, including the US, UK, Australia and Canada.

The second package, Sky Broadband Unlimited, has no data cap and starts at €40, rising to €47.50 with the Talk Anytime add-on.

Customers falling outside BT’s network will have the choice of Sky Connect lite and Sky Connect Unlimited starting at €40 per month, rising to €57.50.

No announcement has been made about triple-play services bundling phone and broadband with Sky’s popular TV service has over 530,000 customers in Ireland.

Sky operates a sales and customer service centre at Burlington Plaza in Dublin which will employ some 900 people by summer 2013 when recruitment is completed.
