Security specialist company, Espion, is running a one-week intensive training course aimed at IT security professionals at the end of this month. The training will support the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), the security certification administered by the International Information Security Certification Consortium (ISC) and accredited by the American National Standards Institute.
The qualification validates the competency of information security professionals and their understanding of the concepts covered by the 10 domains of the (ISC)² CISSP CBK, which are: access control systems and methodology; applications and systems development security; business continuity planning and disaster recovery planning; cryptography; law, investigation and ethics; operations security; physical security; security architecture and models; security management practices; and telecommunications and network security.
According to Espion, Ireland is ranked second highest in the world on a per capita basis for the number of IT professionals holding this qualification. Mary-Christine Nolan, the company’s training and development manager, said that having the qualification can enable security professionals to command higher salaries. She also points out that employers have the benefit of knowing that employees with the qualification have been rigorously tested in every area of their security knowledge. ‘Although many undergraduate and postgraduate computing courses have modules dedicated to security, professionals who have been working in this area for several years may not have specific qualifications that recognise the expertise they have built up in that time,’ she says.
The training course will take place in Dublin from 27 to 31 March. The examination, meanwhile, will be held in Saturday 22 April.
