Wexford-based start-up Scurri.com has secured investment of €600,000 to support development of its online shipping service as well as company expansion. On the back of this investment Scurri will create 10 new jobs in the south east region over the next 18 months.
The investment, South East Business Innovation Centre (South East BIC), in conjunction with the Halo Business Angel Partnership, comes from numerous sources, including the Halo Business Angle Partnership and Enterprise Ireland.
Four of the ten new jobs will be created by the end of 2012 with the remainder to be hired by early 2014. The jobs will be based in Scurri’s head office in Duncannon, and are in the areas of software development, design, sales and marketing.
Scurri provides a suite of online services for the management and analysis of delivery service by accessing data from a company’s transport providers.
Rory O’Connor, CEO and founder of Scurri said, “South East BIC was an invaluable and integral support throughout the whole process. They helped us to develop our business plans, critically analyse them and prepare us for investment. We now have investors who are not only providing us with the funding but are also passionate about helping us to grow the business… We are now targeting the UK and hope to expand beyond this into New Zealand and Australia in the next 2 years.”
Aidan Shine, assistant CEO, South East BIC, said: “This is the 10th such investment facilitated by South East BIC since we began the business angel programme some four years ago. Our team in the BIC is fully committed to enhancing the South East as a home for budding entrepreneurs by facilitating the sourcing of such scarce early stage funding.
“Today, angel investing is a real alternative in the range of investment opportunities. We are always looking to speak with potential new angel investors who could benefit from South East BIC’s ability to mitigate their risk as we identify and develop only the highest potential projects.”
