Ripplecom has announced that it has recently acquired the broadband network previously operated by Last Mile Broadband. The recent acquisition by the broadband provider, affects an estimated 2,200 customers in the Midlands and the entire Wireless Network Infrastructure of the Athlone-based wireless service provider.

Speaking on the news, John McDonnell , managing director at Ripplecom observed that the move has expanded the firm’s customer base and overall is good news for the broadband provider. McDonnell said that the acquisition “has further increased our market presence and positions Ripplecom as the primary provider of Wireless Broadband Services to both Business and Residential customers in Ireland.”

McDonnell added that Ripplecom’s aim is “to expand its customer base over the coming months by delivering up to 8Mb broadband and Voice Services nationally.”

In recent months Ripplecom has upgraded its core network to deliver a 10g core giving it the ability to rapidly increase its broadband speed. Ripplecom plans to not limit this speed increase to the urban areas but wishes to roll out the benefits to semi urban and rural areas also, thus allowing residential customers and businesses all over Ireland to take advantage of high speed broadband regardless of their location.

The acquisition should see Ripplecom strengthen its position as Ireland’s largest wireless internet provider. The company presently operates in 21 counties and boasts 500 access points and over 8,000 customers.
