The Irish Computer Society (ICS) has set up the ICS Privacy Forum, an independent group focused on data protection and related issues. Its aim is to provide a platform for professionals in all industries to learn about the latest data protection best practices through regular seminars, workshops and online resources.
ICS CEO Jim Friars said the forum “seeks to complement the work of the Data Protection Commissioner’s office and our own training programmes.”
As a not-for-profit organisation with responsibility for promoting and supporting both the IT profession and general IT literacy, the ICS anticipates playing a significant role in helping the Data Protection Commissioner’s office to educate people in this area.
The ICS last year introduced Ireland’s first Data Protection Certification Programme, which was met with tremendous success.
